About 40 volunteers in Rome to assist with Pope Francis’ funeral
With around 40 volunteers from across the region and 10 vehicles at its disposal, Anpas Emilia-Romagna is currently active in Rome to provide assistance during the funeral of Pope Francis.
The president of the regional public assistance network, Iacopo Fiorentini, explains: “Almost 400,000 people have already arrived in Rome to pay their respects to the coffin of the Holy Father, and during the funeral, the city will have to manage a great deal of pressure from a logistical and organizational point of view. Anpas Nazionale is carrying out a fundamental coordination role, and as Anpas Emilia-Romagna, we felt it was our duty to be part of the complex machine that is currently providing healthcare assistance to this enormous influx of pilgrims. After the funeral, there will also be the long process of departure and return, which will take several days.
Our volunteers will be working shifts of several hours, which will be quite demanding. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the men and women who have made themselves available to provide this important service, which is bringing us to the attention of the international community at a time when the whole world is watching what is happening in our capital.
